Sitar
  • Sitar is a relatively well- known Indian classical instrument. Being in the shape of a long-necked plucked lute, it has 18 musical strings. Out of the 18 musical strings, there are 2- 4 playing strings, 11 sympathetic strings and 3- 5 drone strings.
  • The instrument has to be fretted in order to produce the ornamentation of music. The strings are then pulled towards the side along the fret, resulting in the production of melodious music.
Rudra Vina (Bin)
  • Often known as one of the oldest musical instruments in Indian Music, this instrument consists of a fingerboard with 2 gourd resonators at each end. The resonators are large enough, giving the scope of the spread of melody to the surrounding areas.
  • The Rudra Vina has 2 or 3 Chikari strings which are used as rhythmic drones. It has 4 main playing strings and is often known to be used in the performance of Dhrupad.
